Gun enforcement
It was during the election of this year that I noticed that alot of people were concerned about guns. Many people thought that when President Obama got into office that he would ban guns from the United States. I saw alot of people rushing to the shops and buying every gun that they could buy. Even though it was a time of money difficulty the sales for guns went up! It was not at all hard to figure out who the people where that were against tougher enforcement of gun laws. It was crazy to think that they were fighting against tougher gun enforcement just so that they could have the right to buy an AK 47. I whole heartly believe in the second amendment. I believe in the right to bear arms. What many people failed to realize is that the restrictions would not affect the average law abiding citizen. President Obama was tough of gun laws in Illinois because of the homicide rate there. He believed that if tougher restrictions were on repeat offenders then it would stop the violence that was occuring and guess what? He was right about it. There is a need for tougher gun laws to help police put away Felons. The best thing that happen was when congress passed the Project EXILE Act, which provided $100 milion over five years that sentenced criminals who use or carry a firearm during a violent crime or serious drug trafficking offenses to at lease five years in prison without parole. Even Felons know that this is serious. Many have stayed away from fireams. The Felons that decided to pick up a weapon was sentenced to Federal time in a prison. The streets were alot safer to be around. Strict gun enforcement is nothing to fear. It will not take away from the second amendment unless you are a felon. If you are a felon then chances are that you probably don't need a gun in your possesion. The fear of strict gun laws after all is nothing to fear. The average American that is a law abiding citizen was not affected by the strict gun laws. It is a great tool for law enforcement! What many people don't understand is that when law enforcement don't have enough evidence to charge a felon with a crime that they committed then they could always charge them with being in possession of a firearm when they are close to a weapon or near a gun. After talking to the U.S District Attorney I found out that if a felon is in possession of bullets even without a gun they could still get five years prision.

I agree with the law and not letting felons have guns. Yet, I do not think that this law will stop crime. If a felon wants a gun there is plenty of ways he can get one. Yes, he takes the chance of getting caught, but he can still buy one from friends or under the counter somewhere. The law pretty much is just for catching them and not letting them purchase guns legally but not really stopping them from having guns in their possession.
ReplyDeleteExpanding the gun laws will on leave citizens without gun and do nothing to take the guns from criminals. They will by guns by any means. If the government make it harder for the average Jo to purchase a gun people will just not buy one from all the red tape. Mandatory sentencing is where its at. Most of the felony criminals are repeat offenders. Stiffer jail time will make anyone think twice before committing a crime.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I misunderstood the new law/rule about the guns. What I think a lot of gun owners are upset is that they have to register them all on the federal income tax forms and in turn, eventually they believe they will be paying some kind of taxes on them. Why else would you be required to list all the guns you have on your income tax forms? Too, you don't know who is going to see those forms and someone may decide they can steal from you. To them it is just another way of taking their rights and privacy away. If they are law abiding citizens they aren't going to do anything illegal with them anyway. The criminals seem to get whatever they want in-spite of the harsh and strict laws.
ReplyDeletePrivate citizens should have the right to bear arms. Like Julian said above, the criminals will have any number of ways to get illegal weapons and decent citizens are left defenseless. What's wrong with having a gun permit or a gun? If you teach your kids about the hazards of weapons, then they are NOT going to mess with them. So many people are afraid of having any weapons in the house, but I prefer to have a way to defend myself. My children have a healthy respect for weapons. These days, many children carry around an automatic weapon like it was a wallet in their pocket. I saw a commercial the other day for bullet proof backpacks -- are you kidding???? Why aren't these parents doing something about their children carrying weapons to school?? Answer: Many just don't care and don't talk to their children. Many teens are in gangs and their parents don't even know it! It's ridiculous! And this is the next round of criminals coming up in the system. It's sad....
ReplyDeleteAs a gun owner I believe that we should have guns but do we need any assult rifles? As with anything people are not supposed to have they will find a way to get them just like drugs. I think that we need to have a better way of controling guns but just how is where the problem is.
